Tarzan is a character from the novel Tarzan of the Apes by writte, by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912. Many films and comics with the character of Tarzan coming from this story appeared in the 20th century, but they often distorted the original tale.

In the original tale, Tarzan is a child coming from an English blue-blooded family who penetrated an African jungle after a rebellion. After the death of his parents, Tarzan, whose real name is John Clayton III, is raised by a ape tribe similar to gorillas. As he has always lived in the jungle with his adoptive parents, Tarzan has developed some incredible abilities and strength. It is only once he became an adult that he met humans for the first time, and left the jungle to go to England. But he ends by missing the jungle and rejects the civilized world, and goes back to his primitive life in the jungle.

The most famous movie about Tarzan is obviously Greystoke : The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes staring Christophe Lambert, released in 1984. Several TV shows always appeared, and even an cartoon from the Disney studios.
