Tom's Games > Teenager
One basic teenage words is: “get lost, nobody understands me.” This phrase makes clear the teenagers' widespread feeling of incomprehension.
Indeed, adolescence is a crucial life stage: teenagers on the onset of their life, have a wide angle vision of what being an adult means. They have, in a way, wisdom: they may choose, basing their choice on a panel of adult styles, what they'd like for a role model and what they really don't want to be in the future. Of course, the idea that in their youth, parents used to burn their bra or demonstrate against the police can be pretty hard to get when these adults now buy TV sets on credit.
Physical changes are the most visible and “quantifiable” ones, but mental changes are the most interesting to study. Teenagers really are kept in between two life stages: they grow a conscience, start asking themselves elementary metaphysical questions (Who am I, does God exist, why people are so mean, who are people, who's who...) but at the same time, attempt to resist to such forces.
Through puberty, teenagers also get to experience the social and gender differences. Like Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, teenagers start being embarrassed of their body. And we understand them, because we totally remember our own adolescence, this damned awkward age that no one would ever wish to go back to! Spots growing everywhere on the face -sometimes even elsewhere-, oily hair, disproportionate body, bad temper... teenagers have to overcome the process of puberty and, unfortunately, they cannot avoid this period. So they get comfort in playing video games (ah! Playing!) but wouldn't turn their back at an occasion to get laid.
