A toy is an object that children affectionate particularly for they satisfy one of their basic need: play. A toy may take any possible form, and has no other limit than your imagination. Thus, children -and we must confess, adults as well-, like to play with toys because they allow them to amuse themselves, to escape in an imaginary world that they conceive alone or with others. They use this leisure time to dream, relax, amuse themselves and spend a little of their energy!

We could try to classify some classics among all the toys as to see better in this maze of toys...

Toys that are designed for the youngest are generally some rattle or other awakening bases, that are most often full of colors and produce many different sounds, which give infants the opportunity to awaken their senses: touch, sight and hearing mainly.

Children would rather play with toys that develop their imagination: dolls, doll's tea set, fortified castle, characters with the head of their hero or superhero as to create their own world. They enjoy making these characters evolve in this imaginary world and imagine them allocated with superpowers or else.

As for adolescents, they are more attracted by gadget-toys, objects that invest them with a certain responsibility, for often these toys have a financial value. For instance, a bike or an ipod. All the games consoles and multimedia will attract them as well, adults included. These “toys” are often more than only toys, but they remain objects that enable them to escape, relax and make their imagination work. RPG are a typical example where the player embodies a character and makes it evolve in a fictive world.
