Transformers is science-fiction animated series written and recorded in the United States but animated in Japan and South Korea. It is composed of 98 episodes of 25 minutes each and was broadcast from September 1984 to November 1987.

Transformers are alien-robots from planet Cybertron where they have developed the ability to transform themselves in machines belonging to the environment in which they are. On Earth they mostly turn into cars, but also into smaller items like rifles or walkmans.

Those polymorphic robots were inspired by Japanese toys called Diaclone and who could turn themselves into various inanimate items. In 1984, Transformers toys were released through the association of Hasbro and Takara (toys companies). It is thus worth noting that Marvel comic books and the animated series that followed was adapted from the toys and not the other way around like in most in the cases.

Transformers involves the struggle between 2 factions: the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime and the Decepticons, led by Megatron. An everlasting civil war opposing the two groups is roaring on Cybertron, when the Decepticons seem to take the advantage over the Autobots, compelling them to flee ans seek shelter on another planet (The Earth). In the meantime, the Decepticons follow them and everyone ends up on Earth. While Megatron wants to rampage the planet and stole its natural resources , the Autobots decide to make an alliance with humans to throw the Decepticons plans of invasion.
