The wolf is a mammal of the Canidae family and a close cousin of the domestic dog.
The wolves are carnivores. In the Far North, they prefer to eat small rodents and lemmings, rather than reindeers because, in proportion, rodents are more fat and fleshy than reindeers. This fat stored by the body protects wolves from the cold. They also eat insects and fungi when they find nothing else. The wolves are about 1m length without their tail and 80cm high, and can weigh up to about 80 kg.

The wolves are predators, living and hunting in packs organized according to a strict social hierarchy. The pack is headed by a couple dominant which is generally the only one to procreate. This type of organization is also found in other canidaes living in packs.

The wolves were once widespread throughout the Northern Hemisphere, but their population was decimated by hunting and occupation of their habitat by men. We can even speak of extermination in the second half of the nineteenth century in Western Europe, because of the works of Pasteur that made wolves the main propagators of Rabies. Large rewards were attributed to hunters who killed wolves.
