Tom's Games >  Xiao xiao

Xiao Xiao is an action game and a series of animation conceived by Zhu Zhiqiang and launched in 2001. Its name can be translated into English by “little fella”, Xiao Xiao being a sort of pet name in Mandarin.

The main characters of the game are quite primary, they are stickmen. They look like kids drawings: lines for the arms, the legs and feet. The head of the character is quite disproportionate compared to the rest of his body. The setting, simple and efficient, and its gameplay make this game an excellent one.
The major interest of the game is that, among other things, the transition between the scenes are fast and fluid. You'll get hooked on it!

The Xiao Xiao games are a series of 10 games. The first one which is a sort of parody of martial arts combats introducing two stickmen.
Number 3 is also interesting since it gives a little glimpse of the Matrix scene with Trinity (the slow motion scene where she kicks a baddie).

For the anecdote, in 2004, Nike used a character that was quite alike the Zhiqiang Xiao Xiao to use it in a commercial.
Zhiqiang filed a complaint for damages and won the trial despite Nike's counsel for the defense explanation that the character was so primary and basic that it was part of the public domain and that there was no need for them to pay any copyright.
