Konami previewed eagerly awaited titles from two of its most powerful franchises Wednesday at E3 2007. One of the most anticipated games of the next-generation console era has been Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PlayStation 3. Konami confirmed the title will be an exclusive PS3 title, and announced that the game will arrive in early 2008 in a simultaneous worldwide launch. And according to Konami, the fourth MGS will be grand finale for the series.
Metal Gear Solid series creator Hideo Kojima spoke briefly during the press conference and presented the new MGS 4 trailer. Guns of the Patriots takes place in "a war-torn future where huge conglomerates fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries." An older Solid Snake is assigned to several missions across the Middle East and South America. Details about the plot are sketchy, but the trailer shows Solid Snake and several mech warriors as well as a stunning melee duel between two characters. The trailer also shows some popular characters from previous MGS games, such as Meryl Silverburgh, Raiden, and Vamp. It goes without saying that the trailer's animation, which was done entirely with the in-game engine, was brilliant.

Konami also dropped some information about another successful franchise with Silent Hill V (working title). The fifth game in the highly successful survival horror series is currently in development for the Xbox 360 and PS3, according to Konami. The game follows Alex Shepherd, a war veteran returning home from an overseas tour of duty who is searching for his missing brother. His search leads him to none other than the mysterious town of Silent Hill. With the main character being a soldier, we can probably expect more combat gameplay with Silent Hill V, and Konami said players will have more control over the main character than ever before. And perhaps most importantly, Silent Hill V will offer an all-new soundtrack from famed composer Akira Yamaoka to help set the tense, eerie atmosphere. No release date was announced for Silent Hill V.
