According to Valve's official Team Fortress 2 blog, the Heavy will be the next class to receive new weapons and achievements.
While no specifics were revealed, Valve designer Robin Walker did give fans a unique insight into the process of adding new weapons to a class and their effects on gameplay. In updating a class, Walker shows how primary goals and constraints are laid out before any sort of discussion begins: So far, the goal for the Heavy is make him more of a threat when separated from a Medic. However, Walker explains that this goal must be achieved without completely changing how the game is played as well as keeping the Heavy from overlapping with any other class.
After setting a goal and its constraints, Walker elaborates on what the updates must achieve while striving for the primary goal, with balance, entertainment value, diversity form the original weapon set, and an appropriate learning curve being the objectives. Walker also discusses the skills needed to be a good Heavy, such as being in the right place before you start firing and being aware of how much damage you're taking during a firefight so that you have enough time for the Minigun to spin down and retreat.
So far, Valve has released updates for the Medic and the Pyro classes, with new achievements and unlockable weapons that have increased the popularity of the two least-played classes in the popular multiplayer game. Look for more details on the updates as well as a new "Meet the Team" video in the weeks to come.
