One of the bigger titles to be previewed this week at the new E3 Media & Business Summit this week will be none other than Guitar Hero III: The Legends of Rock. After the first two games, Guitar Hero has become a bona fide phenomenon that has elevated and transcended gaming. So how does publisher RedOctane plan to top the previous titles? By adding a real guitar hero to the mix.
Some details have emerged about the new Guitar Hero title, particularly the breaking news about how Slash will appear in the game. In fact, the former Guns ‘N Roses will be a boss battle character in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Activision also announced that the time-honored Guns N' Roses' anthem "Welcome to the Jungle" will be part of the soundtrack, which will also feature The Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Muse and Pearl Jam.
"Guitar legend Slash, combined with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock's robust soundtrack and innovative new game features, will continue to solidify the brand's leadership in the rhythm-action genre," said Robin Kaminsky, executive vice president of Activision Publishing, in a press statement. "Additionally, our diverse and well-rounded E3 portfolio underscores Activision's continued commitment to building brands that appeal to global audiences and delivering top-quality games that delight fans worldwide."
The initial song list includes:
• Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
• Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
• Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
• The Metal (by Tenacious D)
• My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
• Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
• Rock And Roll All Nite (Kiss)
• School’s Out (Alice Cooper)
• Slow Ride (Fog Hat)
• Cult of Personality (Living Colour)
• Barracuda (Heart)
In addition, there will be a new Gibson Les Paul Controller for the game (check out the photos below with the Kramer guitar model). Guitar Hero III is being developed by Neversoft of the Ton Hawk series fame, replacing original developer Harmonix (which is currently working on a new title called Rock Band). The game is scheduled to arrive this fall for the PlayStation 2 and 3, Xbox 360 and Wii.
As for Slash, I think it’s kinda cool to have him on board for Guitar Hero III. But I think Axl would make the better video game villain, personally.

Now if they would just make a guitar controller for adults, rather than children and midgets.

anyone else notice that the only picture of Slash is the one where he is inadvertantly flipping off the camera while reaching for the 'e' string?
How about some songs from one of the greates guitar players ever, Neal Schon? or Santana? or Eric Clapton? or Eddie Van Halen? Slash is a good start but anyone of those 4 would be a good choice as the uber rock battle boss, the one after Slash.
