Guitar Hero III "Bangs the Drum" With New Track

The new track list for Guitar Hero III: The Legends of Rock just keeps getting better and better. Activision announced yet another addition to the game at an exclusive preview for the game at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival yesterday, and it’s a great one: “She Bangs the Drums” by The Stone Roses.

“She Bangs the Drum” is one of the best songs on The Stone Roses eponymous debut album from 1989, which is considered a landmark record and one of the best British rock albums of all time. Sadly, The Stones Roses broke up after their follow-up album, titled “Second Coming,” and the world has been deprived of new music from the band for more than 10 years. Will the Roses ever get back together? There have been rumors of a reformation in recent years, but it seems highly unlikely, even with the band getting some love from Guitar Hero. But if The Police can get back together, I supposed anything is possible.

The third installment of the highly successful and transcendent Guitar Hero franchise has a lot going for it, which is a good thing because Neversoft has replaced original Guitar Hero developer Harmonix, which has moved on to the forthcoming title Rock Band. I got a chance to play Guitar Hero III during E3 last month, and while I’m absolutely terrible at the game, some of the tweaks and new features added to the game definitely improved the experience.

The track list for Guitar Hero III includes an original guitar solo from ex-Guns ‘N Roses guitarist Slash, who appears in the game as a boss battle. RedOctane said another famous guitar legend will also be featured in the game as a second boss battle, and the company said it will announce that guitarists identity as the we get closer to the game’s launch date this fall. The track list currently includes:

Slash’s Original Boss Battle Recording
Welcome to The Jungle (by Guns N’ Roses)
One (by Metallica)
Paint It Black (by The Rolling Stones)
Cherub Rock (by Smashing Pumpkins)
Sabotage (by Beastie Boys)
The Metal (by Tenacious D)
My Name is Jonas (by Weezer)
Knights of Cydonia (by Muse)
Even Flow (by Pearl Jam)
Lay Down (by Priestess)
Cult of Personality (by Living Colour)
Miss Murder (by AFI)
Through Fire and Flames (by Dragonforce)
Number of the Beast (by Iron Maiden)
3's and 7's (by Queens of the Stone Age)
Suck My Kiss (by Red Hot Chili Peppers)
Raining Blood (by Slayer)
Reptillia (by The Strokes)
Paranoid (by Black Sabbath)
Cities on Flame (by Blue Oyster Cult)
Mississippi Queen (Mountain)
La Grange (by ZZ Top)
Rock and Roll All Nite (by Kiss)
School’s Out (by Alice Cooper)
Rock You Like a Hurricane (by Scorpions)
Slow Ride (by Foghat)
Barracuda (by Heart)
She Bangs the Drum (by The Stone Roses)

Kudos to RedOctane for including “Mississippi Queen,” “Slow Ride,” “Cult of Personality” and especially “She Bangs the Drum.” However, if I were making the track list for Guitar Hero III and had to pick a Stone Roses song, I probably would have gone with “Love Spreads” or even “Breaking into Heaven” from the band’s underrated second album. In fact, here are some songs I’d love to see.

Love Spreads (by The Stone Roses)
Story of My Life (by Social Distortion)
Ocean Size (by Jane’s Addiction)
The Song Remains the Same (by Led Zeppelin)
Kickstart My Heart (by Motley Crue)
Let’s Go Crazy (by Prince)
Just (by Radiohead)
Key to the Highway (by Derek and the Dominos)
Baby Please Don’t Leave (by Buddy Guy)
Fat Bottomed Girls (by Queen)
Rusty Cage (by Soundgarden)
Get to This (Los Lobos)

What would your ideal track list include?

Anything by Converge.

Torgo:

GUNS N ROSES ... more please!!

And no NuMetal, no post-1989 Metallica, no modern rock.

Mattcha:

Actually they should make a "modern" rock version, which I'm sure they will produce one day soon.
it would have to include bands like,

Korn
Tool
System of a Down
Godsmack
Radiohead
Nickelback

There are countless other bands and 1 hit wonders from the 90s and current that would make great tracks for this franchise.

What Torgo said, but opposite. Guns n Roses sucks... And "modern rock" rocks, I like the stuff from the early to mid 90s.

Shane Tippets:

I can't imagine it being a very viable option for these kinds of games, but I sure would like to see some Dream Theater, or at least anything with their guitarist, John Petrucci. That man picks so fast it's insane.

Anonymous:

any old Van Halen

a.nonymous:

Cliffs of Dover - Eric Johnson
For the Love of God - Steve Vai - potentially the most difficult song evar
some Joe Satriani
Layla
A blues guitar pack. Think BB King. Aw man...
A classical guitar pack.
A japanese pack - X Japan, MUCC, Tak Matsumoto, Hide....
or even a general "international" pack.

the potential for GH/Rock Band is just absolutely mind blowing.

UNLEASH THE F$%!@# FURY!!!!

Carl:

I think they really need to do a Guitar Hero: Detroit Rock City expansion.

D:

Rocket Queen by Guns N Roses #1 pick. Listen to this song before and after guitar hero and you will love this song even more

Any Tesla - What you give would be the best power ballad

THe ENTIRE Badmotorfinger album from soundgarden

Peter Frampton - Come on! talking guitar?

Skid Row - Slave to the grind

Buckcherry -any song they all rock!

Bob Seger - Travelin Man/Beautiful Loser

Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper

With an easter egg that allows you to play the cowbell.

Jon :

im glad im not the only person who knows that prince is an amazing guitarist. rusty cage would be a great idea as well. its been my ringtone for a while heh.

GnR Forever:

Ok, to whoever said Guns N Roses suck, go fuck yourself, Guns n roses were on top of the world in the late 80's / early 90's, Im on bail right now, and i'de risk a breach (another charge meaning my bail is revolked and i goto jail) just to smash your face in, IF axl didnt do it first, you fuckin panzy faggot get a life.
